Following are frequently asked questions about coming to train in Wudang and the Ways of Wudang. If you have any questions that are not addressed here, please send an email here.

Training at the School

1. How do I enroll in the Ways of Wudang?
You can get apply by registering here at any time. Once you fill out the form, we will get in touch with you and begin to make the arrangements accordingly. Registration is open starting April 2026 but space is limited. It is advised to make a reservation payment on tuition at least one month prior to your expected arrival date to reserve your space as well as prepare your travel arrangements. Register Here

2. When are courses available?
Training is conducted regularly starting in April 2026. You can choose to come in April or anytime during the year as training is ongoing. When you fill out the reservation form, please enter in your expected arrival and departure dates so that we can confirm available space and help you begin your preparation to travel to Wudang.

Occasionally, there will be scheduled programs available. These will follow set times and will be announced on this website as well as the Wudang Way social media. Be sure to follow and turn on notifications to see any updates.

3. When should I register for training?

While you can register at any time, space may be limited so it is best if you register at least 1-2 months before your expected arrival. This way you will have enough time to make travel arrangements, apply for a visa, and prepare for your stay in Wudang.

4. What is the accommodation like at the school?
There are single and shared rooms available. If travelling together with others, you may choose to have a shared room. There are 4 full bathrooms (2 of which have washing machines for common use) that are shared and separated by gender. Currently, there are no rooms with private bathrooms so this should be taken into consideration and proper etiquette should be practiced.

Regular meals are prepared and served in the cafeteria. There is space for both indoor and outdoor training with martial arts training mainly being outdoors while culture classes and meditation are conducted indoors. There is also a common tea room/office with a library that is open at certain times between classes.

5. Are there western-style toilets available?
No, the toilets are all Chinese-style squat toilets.

6. Is it necessary to have martial arts experience to join training?
It is not necessary to have prior experience though the training can be quite intensive so any experience, even in other sports, will be helpful. However, we have trained students with different backgrounds and ages. From zero experience to current martial arts teachers, from children to retired adults, the Ways of Wudang are for everyone. Wherever you are on your journey, there is always something to learn and something to improve!

7. I have a health condition, can I still train?
All health contraindications need to be openly shared during registration. While the training can be beneficial to many people and may even complement recovery in some cases, certain health conditions may require adjustments to the training and it is best if they are communicated with the school and the teacher so that no issues arise from training. Also, any necessary medication or doctor's notes on training should be shared so that an appropriate training regime can be created together.

8. How long do I need to train to finish a complete form?
Training is a lifelong endeavor. With that in mind, the learning phase is different for everyone. Those with experience may learn faster and some programs may be dedicated to a certain curriculum that allows a shorter study period, however the recommendation is that a single form takes around 4 weeks to learn in entirety. In addition, this is only the learning phase. It is still important to continue training and improving this form. Completion in learning is not equal to mastery in performance.

The best way to answer this question is by first sharing your experience, interests, and goals when beginning training and then working together with your teacher to build a plan.

9. What is the age range of students? Is there a limit?
Classes are targeted at adults who can stay disciplined and are active enough to join the training. For children travelling with parents or older adults with mobility issues, training may be ok but this should be confirmed with the school before completing registration. The average age is from 18-45, though exceptions may be made in special circumstances.

10. What is the class size?
The school is currently limited in rooms and space to around 30 students. Although the average class size is around half of that. There is plenty of time for each student to have time for both group and individual instruction.

Travel Information

1. Do I need a Chinese visa?
If you hold a passport outside of China, yes. Although, there are countries that are part of a visa-free program for travel to China. In this case, you may qualify for a one month visa upon entry. To make sure, please check with you local Chinese embassy. Should you need a Chinese visa, after registration, we can provide an invitation letter to assist with the application process.

2. How long can I join training for?

This largely depends on how long your register for classes and what length of visa you receive. Short term training is the easiest to arrange as visa extensions may not always be available for long term training. We recommend to come and join training for a month at first before deciding if you would like to extend your stay to continue training.

3. What is the best way to get to Wudang?
Travel to Wudang is very convenient. There is an airport (Shiyan/Wudangshan, Airport code: WDS) outside of Wudang. It is less than a half an hour from the school location. There is also a high speed train station, Wudangshan West (武当上西). Both have regular transits from major cities; Beijing, Wuhan, and Shanghai all have daily options.

4. What if I don't speak Chinese?
While it is helpful to be able to speak Chinese, China is a very English friendly place. It may be useful to download a translation app that can be used offline but you should be able to travel to the school easily. Once you arrive in Wudang, and in the school itself, there is no need to speak Chinese. Classes are hosted in Chinese and/or English depending on the class composition.

5. Is it safe to travel alone in China?
China is very safe. If you ever need assistance, the local police services and Exit and Entry Departments are available to help with any issues.

6. What is the weather like in Wudang? When is the best time to come?
Wudang has a moderate climate. It can be rainy during the early spring (March) and the late autumn (October) but usually it is not a long rain season. The high season is during July and August while the off season is December and January. The winter can be quite cold and since training is still held outside during this time, it is recommended to have layers for training and a warm jacket. Clothes can also be ordered and even tailor-made while staying in Wudang.
